As the weather outside gets frightful, nothing is more delightful than heading to a movie theater and snuggling up with popcorn and loved ones. Here are five of the most heartwarming movies opening this season.

Poster for The Grinch

1 of 5 The Grinch – November 9

Fans of the beloved Jim Carrey movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas will love this animated take on the Dr. Seuss holiday classic. The story follows the Grinch (voiced with booming energy by Benedict Cumberbatch) and his dog Max as they plot to take Christmas away from the residents of the whimsical town of Whoville.

Creed II Poster

2 of 5 Creed II – November 21

Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone return to the boxing ring in this sequel to the hit 2015 film. Creed II finds Adonis Creed struggling to balance demands of family, legacy and excellence as he faces his toughest challenger yet: Viktor Drago, the son of the man who killed his father in the boxing ring decades earlier. Fans will appreciate the series’ trademark training and boxing scenes, and the growing bond between Creed and Rocky.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse poster

3 of 5 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – December 14

This new Marvel movie is an animated, guest-filled romp through multiple dimensions and Spider-Mans. Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) is a normal high school student—until he starts developing spider-like powers and meets Peter Parker (voiced by Jake Johnson), a spider-powered hero from another dimension. Featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Hailee Steinfeld and Liev Schrieber, this action packed adventure is entertaining and humorous.

Second Act Poster

4 of 5 Second Act – December 21

Second Act is a refreshing film that focuses more on career, friendship and family than romance. Jennifer Lopez plays Maya, a middle-aged woman who feels struck in her career. When her godson creates a false resume that lands her a job at a top company, she uses her street smarts to negotiate the world of big business. Co-starring Vanessa Hudgens, Leah Remini and Milo Ventimiglia, the film features some language, but overall, is an uplifting story about reinventing yourself and second chances.

Mary Poppins Returns Poster

5 of 5 Mary Poppins Returns – December 19

The sequel to the 1964 musical movie Mary Poppins is worth the 50 year wait. Emily Blunt plays the titular character, who journeys back to London 25 years after the events of the first film took place to assist the now grown up Michael and Jane after a family crisis. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Meryl Streep co star.
