What’s on Your Summer Bucket List?

How to enjoy time with family and friends this season

Enjoy the gifts of summer

What you do with your summer matters. It’s one of nature’s seasons that offers time for relaxation and outdoor activities under the sun. When younger and in school, we couldn’t wait for summer to begin. This meant we had the freedom to play, run and laugh outside with friends. But we don’t have to be kids to take part in the summer fun; we must cherish this season and enjoy the outdoors alone or in the company of loved ones and friends.

This summer, my wife and I are committed to finding ways to make our summer count. We created a bucket list of the things we want to do. Some days we plan to do nothing but sit on our deck and let the sounds of nature sooth our spirits. While other days, we plan to enjoy the great outdoors with those we treasure, love and enjoy being with. As someone once wrote, “The people in your life should be a source of reducing stress, not causing it.”

Last weekend we decided to visit our son in Michigan who we miss dearly. Chatting with him in person filled our hearts with great bliss. Recently, we attended a dance fundraiser with our daughter and her husband on New York’s Hudson River. We listened to music and danced; we had a wonderful time together. Our weekends are filled with enjoyable activities with friends and family, and we couldn’t be happier.

Making the most of our summer doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate; it’s about finding activities, places and people that bring joy to our heart. Summer is God’s gift to us; let us go out and enjoy it. What is on your summer bucket list? Please share with us.

Lord, thank you for this summer that is in full swing; help us to enjoy all the gifts of the season.
