Fall is a great time for potluck suppers with neighbors, football game-watching gatherings and other celebrations. Dips for crunchy snacks—whether veggies or chips—are a mainstay of successful entertaining. But after a summer of salsa and guacamole, you might find yourself ready for new and exciting flavors. You might also find yourself craving lighter, healthier dips that won’t feel overly heavy.

First and foremost, a positive party is defined by the guests, a group of people who are there for conversation, laughter, connection and even support. But a close second to the social benefits of hosting a get-together is that parties bring the chance to enjoy great food with those great people.

Try one of these three healthy dips at your next party.

1)  “Loaded” Hummus
Hummus is a classic dip, and the chickpeas and tahini (sesame) paste it contains make it a protein-rich and nutrient-dense food. You can easily find it at the grocery. But to elevate your hummus game, load it up with additional healthful Mediterranean toppings like crumbled feta cheese, chopped black olives, diced tomatoes and chopped cucumber. Each of these ingredients packs a nutritional punch, and it also brings new flavors to the familiar taste of creamy, cool hummus.

2)  Healthy Black Bean Dip
In the work bowl of a food processor, combine a can or two of black beans (drained and rinsed) with a healthy pour of salsa—either half a jar or an entire jar, depending on how much you’re making. Add some minced garlic, lime juice, cilantro (you can substitute parsley if you don’t enjoy the flavor of cilantro) and a pinch of salt and pepper. Pulse until smooth and serve with chips or vegetables.

3)  Light Cucumber Yogurt Dip
Greek yogurt is a terrific substitute for sour cream or mayonnaise in creamy dips. However, it’s also flavorful enough to be the star of its own dip. Start by draining the yogurt overnight (if possible) by resting it on a cheesecloth or towel set over a bowl. Peel a cucumber, halve it lengthwise and use a spoon to remove any seeds. Pat the cucumber dry with a paper towel and then dice finely. Combine the cucumber with the yogurt along with a clove of minced garlic, a handful of chopped dill, the juice of half a lemon, and salt and pepper to taste. Double down on the fresh cucumber flavor by serving this dip with cucumber spears.
