An umbrella in a rainstorm

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.—HEBREWS 13:8 NIV

They couldn’t believe their eyes. The family members stood shaking their heads in disbelief at the devastation caused by the storm. Only a slab of cement remained where a shed used to reside. The neighbor’s roof had disappeared. An old oak across the street lay shattered on the road. Nothing looked the same. Everything had changed in one explosive instant.

An unexpected storm can stun us deeply. The shock may last for days, weeks, or even months—and some wonder if they’ll ever feel normal again. Intuition tells us that things will never be exactly as before.

Caregiving is a lot like those storms. The “normal” ways the family has taken care of itself no longer exist. Comfortable old routines disappear. Often we feel vulnerable, helpless, and overwhelmed by the changes imposed on us.

But we do know one person who never changes—Jesus Christ. We can count on Him because He is always present, steadfast, and kind. He is the same yesterday, today, and into our future.

He’ll provide the light in our darkest storm and the stability that keeps our hopes and dreams from shattering in the violent winds of change.

Today's Prayer:

Unchanging God, I look to You for my security—and I trust in Your wisdom and guidance in unstable times. Nothing looks the same anymore, and I feel scared and vulnerable. Please guide me, Lord.
