Messages of Hope for Advent

In this series of videos, Rick Hamlin shares words of inspiration, comfort and hope for the days leading up to Christmas.

Be the Light in Someone’s Life! Every year at Advent we put these candles in the window. You know, it’s an electric bulb, you light it. Well, it seems like a nice winter time thing, but it’s also a reminder. Jesus said, You are the light of the world. He brought light into the world, but we are the light in the world, and so we share that. At Christmas, you buy a present, you bake some cookies, you do a kind deed for someone, you let your light shine. You are the light of the world. Happy Advent! Christmas Is Coming! I used to think the word “Advent” meant waiting, because this is a time of waiting. You open the windows of the Advent calendar, waiting for Christmas. I feel like I’m waiting now for this Covid thing to be over. We’re waiting for the vaccine. But the word “Advent” means “coming.” Christmas is coming. Those shepherds, when the angels came, they had no idea what good news was there, but they were assured the good news is here. So put up the decorations; Christmas is coming. That’s Advent. The Joys of a Crèche at Christmas Hey my friends, it’s Christmas. Of course, you know, you have the Christmas tree, but I love having the crèche: Mary and Joseph, of course, and maybe you’ve got, you know, an animal there. Well, we do this over time. Don’t set it up all at once. First, Mary and Joseph are there and then the animals and then, not till Christmas Day do we put Jesus in the manger right there at the center. And of course, after Christmas, that’s when the Wise Men come. So they come into the picture, too. And until then, we keep them often another place and they move slowly and slowly there. So we can continue to celebrate every day of Christmas, the whole 12 days, celebrating that baby in the manger. God bless.
