Is emotional eating causing you to struggle with the management of your weight? When we don't get the proper love and acceptance and approval we need to fill our hearts, some of us try to fill it up with food. We soon discover, though, that over eating not only fails to satisfy our emotional hunger, but it leaves us worse off than when we started. Not only do we wrestle with the issues that lead us to eat poorly in the first place, we now struggle with being overweight and with the health problems, social challenges, and low self-esteem that weight gain may produce.
I'm Ty'Ann Brown, and I'd like to share some Bible-based tips that can help us end emotional eating. God gave us amazing bodies that communicates with us all the time. Listen to the physical signs of your body and make sure that you're not eating when your body says it's full or when you know you're not actually hungry. Also, slow down when you're eating. Taking smaller bites, chewing your food thoroughly, drinking more water, and even engaging in conversation help us to slow down.
And always, turn to God. When you're facing a problem, don't turn to food for comfort but pray to God for guidance. That guidance may lead you to dig into your troubles more deeply with a licensed professional or to a support group where you can manage your weight in community.
