Taking Time for a Little Angel

It took seeing a picture of my little angel Evie to really make me pause and let my heart swell with pride.

My daughter Evie has been taking kids’ yoga after school once a week for a while now. I took her to her first Thursday class so I could check the place out and meet the teachers and people who work at our community center.

Afte that, I left it to the babysitter to drop Evie off and pick her up. The yoga studio is in tight quarters and the kids get distracted if grownups stand around gawking, so I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything. Besides, I do have to work for a living!

On Thursday evenings when I get home, I try to remember to ask Evie how her class went. Of course there’s lots to tell about her homework, her friends, a new song she likes. Her sister gets in on the act, telling about her day at high school. There’s dinner to cook, pets to feed, trash to put out. Sometimes I get a quick showing of Evie’s latest yoga pose. “That’s great, Sweetie,” I’ll say as I snatch up the dinner napkins on my way down to the laundry.

So why is it that it took this picture of my little angel to make my heart swell with pride? Look how happy she is. And relaxed. And strong. Evie has mastered Eagle Pose!

Yes, I do have to work for a living. But several times today I’ve put down my editing pen to go back to this picture and admire my redheaded angel. Tonight I’m just going to sit on the sofa and pay attention while Evie runs through her entire yoga repertoire. Better yet, maybe I’ll get down on the floor and do some yoga with her. Guardian angel, get ready to help keep me balanced in the poses, as well as in my life.
